Melbourne Area Transition operated a Solar Buying Group , with the participants receiving their rebate cheque for buying on mass.. The number of solar installations has visibly increased around Melbourne. Also, our chosen installer, Mainline Energy Solutions, in Swadlincote, installed the solar pv on Melbourne Parish Church and won an award for Best Community Installation for the church installation.
Solar pv feed-in-tariffs have gone down since the solar buying group started, but the costs of installation of panels has also dropped dramatically, making it still an attractive prospect as well as helping to lower your carbon emissions.
What is solar pv?
Solar pv (photovoltaic) generates electricity from panels mounted either on a roof or on the ground.
What is the Feed-In-Tariff?
The FITs scheme is a government scheme that guarantees a minimum payment for all electricity generated by your solar panels, as well as a separate payment for the electricity exported to grid. These payments are in addition to the bill savings made by using the electricity generated on-site. Installations must be carried out by an installer certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
For more information on the scheme see the Energy Saving Trust website.
